Harnessing Replication in Object Allocation

چکیده

The design of distributed systems involves the partitioning of the system into components or partitions and the allocation of these components to physical nodes. Techniques have been proposed for both the partitioning and allocation process. However these techniques suffer from a number of limitations. For instance object replication has the potential to greatly improve the performance of an object orientated distributed system but can be difficult to use effectively and there are few techniques that support the developer in harnessing object replication. This paper presents a methodological technique that helps developers decide how objects should be allocated in order to improve performance in a distributed system that supports replication. The performance of the proposed technique is demonstrated and tested on an example system. Keywords— Allocation, Distributed Systems, Replication.

A New Guideline for the Allocation of Multipoles in the Multiple Multipole Method for Two Dimensional Scattering from Dielectrics

A new guideline for proper allocation of multipoles in the multiple multipole method (MMP) is proposed. In an ‘a posteriori’ approach, subspace fitting (SSF) is used to find the best location of multipole expansions for the two dimensional dielectric scattering problem. It is shown that the best location of multipole expansions (regarding their global approximating power) coincides with the med...

Object Allocation with Replication in Distributed Systems

The design of distributed systems involves dividing the system into partitions (or components) and then allocating these partitions to physical nodes. There have been several techniques proposed for both the partitioning and allocation processes. These existing techniques suffer from a number of limitations including lack of support for replication. Replication is difficult to use effectively b...

Comparing pixel-based and object-based algorithms for classifying land use of arid basins (Case study: Mokhtaran Basin, Iran)

In this research, two techniques of pixel-based and object-based image analysis were investigated and compared for providing land use map in arid basin of Mokhtaran, Birjand. Using Landsat satellite imagery in 2015, the classification of land use was performed with three object-based algorithms of supervised fuzzy-maximum likelihood, maximum likelihood, and K-nearest neighbor. Nine combinations...

A Competitive Replica Placement Methodology for Ad Hoc Networks

In this paper, a mathematical model for data object replication in ad hoc networks is formulated. The derived model is general, flexible and adaptable to cater for various applications in ad hoc networks. We propose a game theoretical technique in which players (mobile hosts) continuously compete in a non-cooperative environment to improve data accessibility by replicating data objects. The tec...

Object Allocation in Distributed Databases and Mobile Computers

This paper makes two contributions. First, we introduce a model for evaluating the performance of data allocation and replication algorithms in distributed databases. The model is comprehensive in the sense that it accounts for I/O cost, for communication cost, and for limits on the minimum number of copies of the object (to ensure availability). The second contribution of this paper is the int...
